Just Say No To Bunts!!

I was quite confident that when I came into work today people would be ripping Ken Macha for allowing Jason Kendall to swing away in the 9th. I was not disappointed. I have talked about this for the last few years but here I go again...sacrifice bunting decreases your chances to score runs. But if you want to hang onto your outdated baseball strategy what about this old adage? "You play for the tie at home and the win on the road".

Please read the link provided on the troubles associated with the sacrifice bunt.

Too Much of a Sacrifice?

Huffy,

Although I agree that bunting is not a good idea and also believe in playing for the win on the road some it works the other way let me explain. First off Macha should have switched Kendall with Looper who is the best bunting pitcher this year. Now if that works and you are putting in Rivera anyway let him hit and even if he doesn't get hit buy a pitch you still have Counsell batting with to outs but you have a runner in scoring position and Counsell hits better with runner in scoring position.
Now as far as old adages hears one for you. You play to win the game! And you can't win the game with two runs if you don't get one first. Now I know what your thinking the crew is a home run hitting team but Kendall only has one this year and Rivera has none. If you only get one run at least you get a chance to shut them down and go to extra innings and possibly win the game. Better them beating use in the bottom of the ninth then us beating ourselves in the top. Anyway that's it for now love the show keep it up. Also can't wait to see you online.
